What is Maras and Moray?

Maras & Moray These are the two most impressive sites to visit in the Sacred Valley. In these places you can appreciate part of our millenary culture in its different stages such as pre-Inca, Inca, colonial and republican.

Where are Maras and Moray located?

The traditional town of Maras is 74 km away from the city of Cusco. It is an old colonial town that played during the colonial period an important political role due to its proximity to the Salt Mines.

The famous salt mines of Maras are made up of 3000 small wells that work up to this day according to the ancestral methods of the Incas.

Moray is located 7 km west of the town of Maras and at an altitude of 3500 meters above sea level. This archaeological site stands out for its system of circular terraces that, in Inca times, served as an agricultural experimentation center for the adaptation of plants to the different ecological levels.

When is the best time to visit Maras and Moray?

The best time to visit the salt mines of Maras and the circular terraces of Moray is during the dry season from April to October as there is a lower chance of rain and generally more sunlight.

During the rainy season, you will have a higher chance of rain, but with some luck, you will also find sunny days during the rainy season.
