Itinerary
Piedras Rojas Viewpoint + Altiplanic Lagoons + Atacama Salt Flat Full Day
During this tour we will go to the charming altiplanic village known as Socaire. From a viewpoint, we will see and admire its beautiful church and also learn a little more about its local agriculture.
Continuing our adventure, we will enter deep into the altiplano and arrive at the mesmerizing lagoons of Miscanti and Meñiques. Here, we will begin a hike between the two lagoons, immersing ourselves in the impressive flora and fauna of the region.
Crossing the high puna, we will reach the Aguas Calientes sector, where you will see a very beautiful, captivating landscape. The surrounding hills display a magnificent range of colors, creating a truly unique and breathtaking view.
This sector is known as the “Mirador de Piedras Rojas” due to its dominant brown color. Continuing for a few more kilometers, we will reach the last viewpoint at the impressive Tuyajto Lagoon. On the way back we will make a stop at the village of Socaire, famous for its terraced plantations and its beautiful Andean-style church.
Next, we will enter the Salar de Atacama, specifically the Chaxa Lagoon, where we will be able to see, manage a variety of birds and pink flamingos while enjoying one of the most impressive sunsets on the altiplano.

Mirador de Piedras Rojas is located at 4,200 meters above sea level. This site is a combination of intense colors of the desert, mountains and ice, it is the ideal excursion to photograph and observe species.
What is the maximum height reached in this excursion?
The maximum altitude reached is 4200 m. For a good acclimatization, we recommend that you eat light meals and drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the excursion. Due to the altitude, we suggest that you leave this activity for the end of your stay in San Pedro de Atacama.
What are the Altiplanic lagoons?
The altiplanic lagoons (Miscanti and Miñiques) are located in the Andean highlands, surrounded by volcanoes and mountains. These lagoons are part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve, where the combination of the color of the water, the volcanoes and the ice generated by the low temperatures create impressive landscapes.
