    Cusco – Waqrapukara – Cusco

    Depart from Cusco early in the morning and travel south toward Cusipata, where you will enjoy breakfast before continuing through the Andean landscapes of Acomayo.

    From the trailhead, begin a moderate hike of approximately one hour and thirty minutes toward Waqrapukara. Along the route, admire high-altitude grasslands, small lagoons, natural rock formations and panoramic views of the Apurimac River canyon.

    At the archaeological complex, join a guided tour of its terraces, stone enclosures, stairways and ceremonial areas while learning about its pre-Inca origins and later incorporation into the Inca world.

    After exploring the site, enjoy a box lunch and hike back to the transportation point. The tour concludes with the return to Cusco in the evening.

    The tour begins between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. with pickup from hotels located in Cusco’s historic center. We will travel south through traditional Andean villages and mountain landscapes until reaching Cusipata, where breakfast will be served.

    After breakfast, we will continue toward the province of Acomayo, passing near Pomacanchi Lake and the rural community of Santa Lucia. The journey proceeds along a local road to the starting point of the hike, where the guide will provide information about the route, altitude and trail conditions.

    The hike to Waqrapukara takes approximately one hour and thirty minutes each way. The trail crosses high-Andean grasslands, small lagoons and remarkable rock formations, with increasingly impressive views of the Apurimac River canyon.

    Upon arrival, we will explore the principal areas of the Waqrapukara archaeological complex. During the guided visit, you will learn about its stone enclosures, terraces, walls, stairways and ceremonial spaces, as well as its historical development and importance during the pre-Inca and Inca periods.

    There will also be time to appreciate the surrounding landscape and take photographs from the authorized viewpoints. After the visit, a box lunch will be served before beginning the return hike along the same trail.

    Our transportation will be waiting at the trailhead for the return journey to Cusco. Arrival is expected between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m.
