The Uyuni Salt Flats, a salt flat located in the Bolivian Altiplano, is one of the 25 Natural Wonders of the World. It covers 10,500 km² within the Andes mountain range. The Uyuni Salt Flats is the largest salt flat in the world. It also contains between 50% and 70% of the world’s lithium reserves, as well as significant amounts of potassium, boron, and magnesium.     Train Cemetery, Colchani and Incahuasi Island

    Discover one of Bolivia’s most remarkable landscapes on a full-day tour of the Uyuni Salt Flats. This experience combines local history, traditional culture and vast natural scenery stretching toward the horizon.

    Visit the Train Cemetery, the community of Colchani and some of the most iconic attractions within the salt flats. Depending on weather conditions, you may also explore Incahuasi Island, known for its giant cacti and panoramic views.

    The experience concludes with an unforgettable sunset over the Uyuni Salt Flats, when the changing light transforms the landscape into a striking display of colors and reflections.

    Note: during the rainy season, especially from January to March, access to Incahuasi Island may vary according to water levels and weather conditions.

    Our excursion begins at 10:00 a.m. with a visit to the salt flat.

    We will make our first stop at the Train Cemetery, where the first locomotives that arrived in Bolivia in the 18th century are found, used to transport minerals between Pulacayo and Antofagasta, highlighting their historical importance.

    Afterwards, we will visit Colchani, where we can observe how salt is processed and buy handicrafts to take home as souvenirs. Next, we will head to the Dakar Monument, the Salt Museum, and Incahuasi Island, where we will see the giant cacti. From there, we will enjoy an excellent viewpoint to watch the sunset over the salt flat, a truly magnificent spectacle.

    The excursion will end between 6:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

    Recommendation:

    To visit the Uyuni Salt Flats, the best period is between January and March. The visit to Incahuasi Island depends on weather conditions and the amount of rainfall in the area.

In southwestern Bolivia, in the department of Potosí, is the Uyuni Salt Flats, the largest desert in the world. It is such a vast salt desert that it can be seen from space.

The Uyuni Salt Flats have two distinct seasons.

The rainy season, from December to April, is when visitors come to witness the breathtaking mirror effect of the salt flats. It is important to consider that there is heavy rainfall, especially from December to January, which may cause tours to be canceled for safety reasons.

During the dry season, from May to November, temperatures are colder and the ground becomes hard and solid. Travelers can drive across the vast white landscape and access areas that are not reachable during the rainy season.

One of the main highlights of the Uyuni Salt Flats is its endless horizon, which allows photographers to play with perspective and depth of field.
