Our Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain trek is a full-day tour, a journey full of adventure. Let yourself be captivated by these impressive formations, a gift of nature: “Palcoyo Mountain,” colorful mountains of Peru. Like the Rainbow Mountain Vinicunca in Cusco, this time we are surprised by the Palcoyo colorful mountain range, located in the district of Checacupe in the province of Canchis. From the Palcoyo viewpoint, you can observe the 3 colorful mountains in all their magnitude and solitary vastness. At the same place, we will also visit the stone forest, which, as its name suggests, is made up of rock peaks the height of trees that look like a real geological maze.

    Cusco – Checacupe – Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain – Cusco

    Begin the journey with an early morning departure from Cusco toward Checacupe. During the visit, discover the town’s Inca, colonial and republican bridges, which reflect different periods of Peru’s history.

    Continue through the Andean countryside toward Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain, located at approximately 4,900 meters above sea level. Upon arrival, take a short hike through a colorful mountain range surrounded by valleys, llamas, alpacas and traditional highland communities.

    Along the route, admire the multicolored formations of Palcoyo, the Red Valley and the impressive Stone Forest of Ccacca Loma. Compared with the classic Rainbow Mountain hike, Palcoyo offers a shorter and more gradual walking route, although its high altitude still requires proper acclimatization.

    After exploring the area, travel to San Pedro for a buffet lunch before returning to Cusco in the evening.

    A representative from our Travel and Tourism Agency will pick you up from your hotel at 04:30 hrs. We will then take a two-hour drive from the southern part of Cusco to the town of Checacupe, arriving at approximately 08:00 hrs.

    Upon arrival in Checacupe, we will observe the historical evolution of the road system over time through three colonial bridges located in the same town: the Inca Bridge, the Colonial Bridge, and the Republican Bridge. It is also possible to visit a colonial temple featuring sophisticated wood carvings and gold leaf work, which houses paintings from the Cusqueña School – Diego Quispe.

    Arrival at Palcoyo.

    After visiting this archaeological area, we will continue towards the Rainbow Mountain range of Pallccoyo, or Palcoyo Mountain, located at 4,900 m.a.s.l. Upon arrival, we will begin a hike of approximately 40 minutes. Along the way, we will admire glacier-carved valleys formed by erosion and brightly colored Permian formations that stand out in the landscape, as well as observe alpacas and llamas.

    We will also be able to see local communities and farmers living in the lower areas of the Pallccoyo Rainbow Mountain range. Additionally, we will enjoy views of the Ccacca Loma Stone Forest and the Red Mountain.

    Lunch.

    After visiting the Pallccoyo Rainbow Mountain range, we will continue our journey to San Pedro to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch. After this wonderful experience, we will return to Cusco City, arriving at approximately 18:30 hrs.
