Huayna Picchu (or Wayna Picchu) is located to the north of the Inca city of Machu Picchu. To climb Huayna Picchu Mountain, visitors must reach the checkpoint and entrance, then follow the trail that begins a few meters from the Sacred Rock. The area has very dense vegetation, and the path is very steep and quite narrow, including sections of stairs and irregular granite stone steps, some carved directly into the rock. The ascent takes between 45 to 60 minutes depending on the person’s physical condition. The trail up this “young mountain” follows a zigzag route, with almost vertical steps and dizzying cliffs. Access is challenging and requires caution. Reaching the top of Huayna Picchu is definitely a demanding climb, but once there, it is well worth the effort due to the breathtaking views.
