After enjoying breakfast at your hotel, we will begin with hotel pick-up at 7:30 a.m. and then head to the main port of Puno. From there, we will start our fascinating adventure toward the Uros Floating Islands, located within the Lake Titicaca National Reserve. Lake Titicaca is known worldwide as the highest navigable lake in the world, at 3,812 meters above sea level.
During this first cultural experience, we will visit these extraordinary islands for approximately 45 minutes, accompanied by a guide who will provide detailed information about the ancestral culture and traditional lifestyle of the people who live on Lake Titicaca.
The Uros are an ancient native community made up of more than 40 floating islands, which are handcrafted with totora reeds by their own inhabitants using ancestral techniques passed down from generation to generation. This native plant from Lake Titicaca is used in many ways: to build traditional homes, typical boats known as totora reed boats, as natural fuel, and even as a traditional food source.
During this authentic cultural experience on the Uros Floating Islands, we will visit the main island and explore approximately 2 or 3 different islands, spending around 30 minutes on each one. You will also have the special option to take a ride on a totora reed boat, the traditional handcrafted vessel that represents the cultural heritage of this highland community.
Afterward, we will continue sailing toward the prestigious Taquile Island, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Upon arrival, we will take a traditional walk of approximately 1 hour, following ancestral paths up to the main village of Taquile. This scenic walk will allow us to appreciate spectacular views of Lake Titicaca and the impressive Andean landscapes of the Peruvian highlands.
On Taquile, we will spend 3 full hours enjoying a complete cultural immersion. We will admire the majestic landscapes of Lake Titicaca, learn about the ancient customs of its inhabitants, and take part in traditional cultural activities.
We will have lunch at a typical local restaurant, where we will enjoy a traditional meal prepared with Lake Titicaca trout, a fresh fish that is characteristic of highland cuisine. You will also have free time to explore Taquile Island and interact directly with local residents, who will skillfully demonstrate their traditional way of life through their renowned handmade textile techniques. These textiles are considered among the finest in the world for their exceptional quality and deep Andean cultural symbolism.
Finally, we will board our boat and begin the return journey to the city of Puno.
