08:00 a.m. – 08:30 a.m.
Pick-up from hotels located in the center of Arequipa, a strategic starting point for this adventure that will take you to discover one of the region’s most important treasures: Arequipa’s sillar stone.
08:30 a.m.
We begin the journey toward the Sillar Route, a tourist destination that combines history, culture, and geology. Along the way, you will learn how this volcanic stone has shaped the identity of Arequipa, known as the White City.
Main Square of Cayma
Our first stop is the Main Square of the Cayma district, a peaceful place full of colonial charm. Here, you will visit the historic local church and take photos at one of the most representative spots of the Sillar Route Tour in Arequipa.
Volcanoes Viewpoint – Cerro Colorado
We continue to the Volcanoes Viewpoint, located in Cerro Colorado, where you will enjoy a privileged view of the three most important volcanoes in the region: Misti, Chachani, and Pichu Pichu. Our guide will share interesting facts and historical details about their formation and cultural importance.
Añashuayco Quarry
We arrive at Añashuayco, one of the most famous sillar quarries in the region. This site is essential to understanding the extraction and carving process of sillar, a stone that has been used for centuries in the construction of temples, houses, and monuments.
You will be able to observe how the stonemasons work directly on-site and see a scale replica of the Church of the Society of Jesus, fully carved in sillar. You will also have the opportunity to interact with local artisans and, if you wish, experience cutting blocks of this volcanic rock yourself.
Culebrillas Gorge
After Añashuayco, we head to Culebrillas, a natural destination named after the winding shape of the terrain. There, we will take a guided walk of approximately 20 minutes through a narrow canyon with walls up to 20 meters high.
During the walk, we will discover petroglyphs from the Wari culture, dating back more than 1,000 years, as well as the famous apachetas, stone formations that represent an ancestral tradition of gratitude to Pachamama, Mother Earth.
01:00 p.m. – Traditional Lunch
We will enjoy a traditional Arequipa-style lunch at one of the city’s well-known restaurants, such as Wayrana, Tío Darío, Chicha, or El Montonero, with menus that may include iconic dishes such as rocoto relleno, adobo, or chicha morada.
02:00 p.m. – Arequipa Countryside Tour
We begin the Arequipa Countryside Tour, an extension of the route that takes us through districts and sites such as Sabandía, Paucarpata, the Sabandía Mill, the Scenic Route, the Founder’s Mansion, Tingo Spa, the Sachaca Viewpoint, and the Fierro Bridge.
This is a wonderful opportunity to appreciate Arequipa’s rural surroundings and learn more about its local history and architecture.
03:00 p.m. – Return to the Center of Arequipa
We conclude the Sillar Route Tour in Arequipa by returning to the city center. The tour ends with drop-off near the Main Square or at your hotel, leaving you with unique memories of this journey through the history and geology of the White City.
