Where is the city of Puerto Maldonado located?
Puerto Maldonado is the capital of the district of Tambopata and at the same time of the province of the same name and of the department of Madre de Dios.
Among the attractions of this city, there is the predominant nature, such as the national reserve of Tambopata Candamo; it has a wide area in which it is possible to recognize more than five hundred different species of birds, as well as almost a thousand different types of butterflies, among other resources that increase the value of the reserve.
This region of Peru is located in the south east of the country and is made up of three provinces: Manu (Manu), Tambopata (Puerto Maldonado) and Tahuamanu (Iñapari). It has natural protected areas such as the Manu National Park, the Tambopata National Reserve and the Alto Puros reserve area.

Sandoval Lake

Macaw Clay Lick
In the mornings, this place is visited by beautiful macaws, parrots and parakeets. It is a clay lick resembling a miniature cliff made of clay and other minerals, which attracts numerous birds that nibble or lick it to consume its nutrients.
It is located in the Tambopata National Reserve and is known as the largest clay lick in the Peruvian Amazon. Tapirs, capybaras and squirrels can also appear in the treetops.
Lake Sachavacayoc
This is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Peruvian jungle. The colour of its waters is clear and it has an approximate depth of three meters. It is known for its aguajal, an ecosystem with abundant palm trees where macaws nest from November to February. One of the most common mammals is the sachavaca, who usually take baths in the lagoon.
