The Private 1-Day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu begins early in Cusco with a private transfer through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo. From here, you board the train toward Km 104, the official starting point of the Short Inca Trail. After completing the entry formalities, the hike begins with a visit to Chachabamba, an archaeological site located near the start of the route.
The trail then follows an original section of the Inca road system through a changing landscape of Andean mountains, cloud forest and views over the Urubamba River. As this is a private Inca Trail tour, the pace can be adapted to your group, allowing more time for photography, rest stops and interpretation along the way. The route continues toward Wiñay Wayna, one of the most impressive archaeological sites on the Short Inca Trail, known for its terraces, ceremonial structures and dramatic mountain setting.
From Wiñay Wayna, you continue along the final section of the 1-Day Inca Trail toward Inti Punku, the Sun Gate. Reaching this historic entrance is one of the highlights of the day, as Machu Picchu gradually appears between the surrounding peaks. You then descend toward the citadel for a guided visit, following the designated Machu Picchu route and learning about the history, architecture and purpose of this remarkable Inca sanctuary.
After the visit, you take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, followed by the train to Ollantaytambo and a private transfer back to Cusco. This is an active full-day experience, best suited to travelers who are comfortable hiking for several hours and want to reach Machu Picchu on foot through the Short Inca Trail, rather than arriving only by train and bus.
