Uros – Amantani and Taquile 2 Days

Itinerary

DAY 1: UROS TOUR – AMANTANÍ WITH NIGHT

Transfer hotel 7:30 am approx. to the port to visit one of the floating islands of the Uros (5 km west of the port of Puno, 30 minutes by boat), unique in the world, formed based on Totora (aquatic herbaceous plant), inhabited by Uros-Aymara families who build and tile their houses with Totora mats. They are called “The People of the Lake” and their origins date back to times before the Incas.

Then the boat ride continues to the island of Amantani (36 km northeast of the port of Puno, 3:30 h. By boat). Arriving on the island and meeting the Quechua families who offer us their cozy houses and prepare lunch (typical).

Later, we will walk around the island to visit the Pacchatata (Pre-Inca Temple) and observe the daily experience of these natives. In the evening, after dinner, we attend a local festival organized by the inhabitants of Amantani Island.

DAY 2: RETURN TO PUNO WITH VISIT TO TAQUILE.

After breakfast, we resume our boat trip to visit the island of Taquile (35 km east of the port of Puno 03:00 h. By boat), which dates back to Pre-Inka times, and can be seen at the top when we arrive.

We start our walk along the stone paths, up to the village where we meet the inhabitants of Taquile Island, a little shy, but very industrious, who demonstrate their art and wisdom to the visitor.

These cheerful and proud settlers of their culture and origin invite us to appreciate the beauty of the landscape in the immensity of Titicaca. The island of Taquile Puno is characterized by its friendly settlers, who maintain their customs, traditions and old-fashioned clothing.

HOW DO THEY BUILD THE FLOATING ISLANDS?

Men are responsible for harvesting the roots of the cattails when they surface in the rainy season.

Then they braid the roots and tie them tightly with string to make blocks. An island floats in about thirty blocks to which is added a layer of dry reed. And they are fastened with heavy stones in the water that serve as anchors so that the island does not move.

An island can have a lifespan of 30 years and house 5 to 10 families.
