When is the best time to do the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu?
The Inca Trail for Machupicchu is extremely popular with adventurers from all over the world, as it is among the top 5 treks in the world. So places run out fast, limited by day and sold out fast. This is an activity that you have to book in advance.
**April – September is the dry season, when rainfall is low. This is seen as a better time to visit as the weather is better. Therefore, you can expect a larger crowd during this period.
**November – February is the rainy season, and then it always rains heavily daily, and tickets for this period can be easier to book as people prefer to trek to Machupicchu in the dry season when it does not rain.
**March and October are the bridge seasons, and the trail closes in February each year for maintenance.
How far in advance do I need to book the Inca Trail?
Usually, every adventure traveller asks this question. How far in advance do I need to book?
It is recommended to book 6 months in advance, so you don’t run the risk of running out of places for your adventure in Peru.
Permits are sold out months in advance and normally, we recommend booking the Inca Trail 8 months before your trip to Peru, South America.
If you want to go during the peak period, you have to book well in advance. I had to book five months in advance (in May) to get a spot at the end of October.
The Inca Trail daily booking is limited to 500 people per day, however, keep in mind that this number includes people who are part of the trekking support teams, porters, cooks, guides and so on.
Which usually amounts to 300, and this means that only 200 people can do, enter the classic 4-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu daily.

The temperature during the Inca Trail
The temperature during the Inca Trail trek in the 4 days varies from 10°C to 18°C.
The annual minimum temperature ranges from 8° to 11.2°C. In June, July and August the temperature can often drop below freez.
