About the Atacama Desert:

In northern Chile lies one of the most breathtaking places on Earth—a land where the landscapes seem otherworldly, where some areas can go years without rain, and where astonishing archaeological treasures have been discovered.
We’re talking about the Atacama Desert, which stretches 1,600 km (994 mi) along the Pacific coast and covers an area of 105,000 km² (40,541 mi²)… CHILE.
Unmissable Destinations
Salar de Atacama
With 3,000 square kilometers (1,158 square miles), Salar de Atacama is the third-largest salt flat in the world. But beyond its vastness, this place is home to incredibly vibrant lagoons, where three species of Andean flamingos thrive.
The Miscanti and Miñiques Lagoons, located 4,300 meters (14,107 ft) above sea level, are turquoise-blue waters surrounded by volcanoes, creating a picture-perfect view of the high-altitude Atacama Puna.

Moon Valley (Valle de la Luna)
Declared a Nature Sanctuary, Moon Valley is a landscape sculpted by millions of years of wind and water erosion. Its rock formations, white sand dunes, and underground caves create a scene that truly lives up to its name.
The sunset at Great Dune is considered one of the most spectacular in the world, as the sun paints the rocks in gold, orange, and purple hues.

El Tatio Geysers
At 4,320 meters (14,173 ft) above sea level, you’ll find the highest geyser field in the world. With over 80 active geysers, El Tatio puts on a natural show that peaks at dawn, when temperature differences send steam columns shooting up to 10 meters (33 ft) high.

Rainbow Valley (Valle del Arcoíris)
The multicolored slopes of Rainbow Valley are the result of different minerals deposited over millions of years. Iron oxides, copper, and other metals have painted the mountains in a palette of reds, greens, yellows, and blues.

Eyes of the Salt Flat (Ojos del Salar)
These natural crystal-clear pools mysteriously emerge from the salt flats, creating perfect oases that host unique microorganisms and offer a stunning visual contrast.
