Yanayacu Communal Reserve – 4 Days Experience

A representative of our Travel Agency will pick you up from the Iquitos International Airport and bring you to our office in Iquitos.

You will have a briefing about the tour, our services, what to do and what not to do in the jungle, as well as some important tips.

After this short overview, you will be transferred to the Nanay pier, where we will board a typical boat called “Pamacari” or on a slide depending on the river season, which will transfer you to the lodge.

On the way to the Nanay River and the Momon River, which are the tributaries of the Amazon River, you will visit the Native Community of the Boras, where you will have the opportunity to share with them their customs, dances, and typical crafts.

Then we will continue our journey until we reach the tourist viewpoint, which has a height of 30 meters, raised on the highest part of a hill in the Independence community, from there we can see the majestic Amazon River in its splendor.

After that, we will arrive at the Amazon Yanayacu Lodge, where you will enjoy a natural fruit drink. While you’re drinking your delicious smoothie, your guide will give you a brief orientation of the lodge and then show you your room. Here you can relax for a moment until lunch is ready.

You will be served a delicious lunch before we continue our journey.

Then, we will go on an artisanal fishing tour, where the most experienced fishermen will feel the thrill of fishing for piranhas (serraselmus nattereri) and other varieties of fish. You will be able to take some amazing action photos of the fishermen.

Afterward, we will return to the lodge where you will have a tasty dinner.

At night, the more adventurous will have the opportunity to participate in a nocturnal walk around the lodge to look for and observe tarantulas, fireflies, small alligators, and other nocturnal species of the Amazon jungle.

Overnight in the Lodge.

Early in the morning, we will start the bird-watching tour to observe the birds that feed on the banks of the Yanayacu River or in the surrounding plantations. We will be able to observe species such as the Tuki (Jacana Jacana), Kingfisher (Ceryle-Torquato), Coto Gavilan or Black-necked Hawk (Busarellus nigricollis).

After the birdwatching, we will return to the lodge for an energizing breakfast.

Then we will start an ethnobotanical walk, for approximately 2 hours accompanied by our expert guides. During the tour, they will teach you how to identify medicinal plants such as cat’s claw, sangre de grado, copaiba oil, and gigantic trees like the Lupuna ́ (Ceiba Pentandra) whose dimensions make it possible for more than 25 people to surround them.

Moreover, you will be able to listen to a vast amount of different bird species such as the Rinahui (Cathaites-Aura) and the Tihuacuro (Monasa-Atia), amongst many others.

Hereafter we will return to the lodge in order to have a tasty lunch.

In order to digest properly, we will visit a rustic Amazon “Trapiche” or stamping mill. We will take a boat that will take us to San Juan de Huashalado where we can find one of the last traditional stamping mills. We will be shown how the inhabitants of this area process sugar cane extract using a handmade “Trapiche” and produce fermented sugar cane juice, which after a certain storage time becomes liquor. You will learn how the typical alcoholic beverages of the region are made and taste the variety of exotic regional drinks made from sugar cane liquor and molasses; you may be even able to purchase a few bottles of this exquisite liquor.

10 minutes from the town is the majestic Amazon River, where you can swim in its warm waters and spend some time enjoying the spectacular and unique landscape.

During summer, on the banks of the Amazon River, we will find some small islands where you can enjoy an excellent bath and mud treatment for the skin in this fabulous natural spa that the jungle has to offer. Don’t forget your bathing suit.

Moreover, with some luck, you will be able to observe the unique and marvelous pink and grey river dolphins that only live here in the Amazon. Let yourself be mesmerized by their elegance and beauty. Then, we will return to the lodge to have dinner.

After dinner, we will make a nocturnal boat ride through the creek called “José caño” to enjoy the magical sounds of the jungle at night. Observe the business of the wildlife at night and catch some great views of the night sky with some astonishingly good sights of the star constellations.

Hereafter we will head back to the lodge where you can enjoy some free time while we will serve you an exotic drink in our bar.

Overnight in Lodge.

After breakfast, you go out on our Full Day Adventure in the jungle, you will navigate through the Yanayacu River until we reach one of the arms of the Amazon River and visit “The Monkey Island” where the monkeys will be waiting for you to have fun and get some your attention, you go closely observe at least 7 species of monkeys, then you got to spend the day exploring the flora and fauna of the area and doing activities, our guide will take care of ordering the lunch.

Lunch at the home of any local or jungle camp type. Then you go to return and start a program of “vivencial tourism” that includes a visit to a riverside town, learning about the customs and traditions of the people.

Return to the lodge then dinner and overnight.

At night you will have an experience of Legends and Stories based on Amazonian mythology told by the

guides.

After breakfast, you go to visit a rescue center, the “Animal Sanctuary” where you can meet, see the famous Anaconda, the largest water boa on planet earth, the Matamata tortoise. The lazy bear, exotic bird species: Toucan, parrots, among others.

Then you go to return to the Lodge for our farewell lunch, proceed with the Check-out, and leave for the “Fundo Pedrito” where there you can see, observe the famous royal victory, the largest ornamental plant in the Amazon, there you got to have the opportunity to meet and feed the paiches, lizards and piranhas. Return to the City of Iquitos.
