Itinerary
Sacred Valley of the Incas Tour
From 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM we will pick you up from your respective hotel to start our tour of the Sacred Valley.
We will travel with our tourist transportation to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where our first stop will be the Inca ruins of Pisac.
This archeological complex is one of the most prominent ruins of the Sacred Valley as it is situated right on a mountain slope, from where the Incas had a strategically well-located point to exercise their domination. Thus, explore the many terraces and architectural wonders that rise up to the highest mountain peak and colonize dazzling mountain cliffs.
After the visit, we will continue along the road passing by the towns of Ccoya, Lamay, Calca, and Urubamba, until we will have a delicious lunch buffet in one of the local restaurants.
After a good lunch and some time to relax, we will continue to visit the archeological complex of Ollantaytambo. Our guide will explain to you its historical importance with respect to its military, religious and cultural functions during the Inca Empire, whilst he will be at your disposal to answer all your questions.
On the way back to Cusco, we will visit the picturesque town of Chinchero, where the remains of the royal estate of Tupac Inca Yupanqui are located. You will be able to admire the last conserved parts of the old Inca wall on the main square and visit the beautiful colonial temple that was constructed on top of the Inca foundations, with its beautiful and intriguing frescoes on the balcony.
Finally, we will return to Cusco arriving at approximately 6:30 PM.

What is the Sacred Valley of the Incas?
About 15 km north of the city of Cusco is where lies the marvelous Sacred Valley of the Incas. With its exquisite lush green vegetation and its aptitude for agriculture, it was a very populated region of the Incas. Nowadays, that translates into a multitude of different Inca ruins that are scattered all along the valley whilst the majestic Urubamba River meanders its way right through its middle.
This beautiful gem is a must-see when visiting Cusco, as it inhabits some of the most stunning landscapes, embellished with a gorgeous flora and fauna, plenty of hiking routes to relish the scenery, a magnitude of touristic activities from paragliding to rafting, and some of the most stunning Inca ruins with an impressive historical past.

Climate in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
The climate in the Sacred Valley of the Incas is temperate and depends on the season. The cold and heat decreases or increases as we make our way through the different villages.
The dry season, or drought, is from April to October, and it is advisable to visit the Sacred Valley during this time. Temperatures vary between 23º C. and 3 °C.
The rainy season is from November to March. Temperatures vary from 21ºC. to 6ºC.
Where is the Sacred Valley of the Incas located?
The Sacred Valley of the Incas is located in the province of Urubamba in Cusco – Peru. It is located 15 km / 9.3 mi northeast of the city of Cusco.
It is reached by a paved road from the city of Cusco. A drive through one of the nearest villages will take you about 40 minutes.
From there you can move around the other villages in the valley. It is even possible to get there by train.
Main citadels in the Sacred Valley to Visit
Pisac
Pisac is located 33 kilometres from the city of Cusco (and is known as the gateway to the Sacred Valley). It is world renowned for its handicraft market and its impressive archaeological remains, located in the upper part of the town. This town is valuable for its location and fertile land. Its Inca and colonial constructions are admirable. Also, Pisac is famous for being an ideal place for spiritual retreats.
Urubamba
Urubamba is one of the most remarkable cities of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. It was born during the colony and is considered the corn capital of the world.
This is possible thanks to the fact that it is watered by numerous rivers that rise in the peaks of the glacial mountains. All this territory was appreciated by the Incas because of the fertility of its lands. It is one of the best places to relax. There you will see many foreigners who decided to leave their countries and stay there.
Ollantaytambo
Ollantaytambo is located 97 kilometres northeast of the city of Cusco. During Inca times it was a fortified city with temples, defensive walls as well as urban and agricultural sectors.
It is known to have served as an administrative checkpoint. It is conjectured to be one of the most important archaeological sites in Peru and South America.
Chinchero
Chinchero is located 28 kilometres from the city of Cusco. It is one of the points of the valley located at the highest altitude: 3,772 meters above sea level (12,375 ft).
Here resided the palace of the emperor Tupac Yupanqui, which was destroyed by the Spaniards. In its place they built the colonial church of Nuestra Señora de Monserrat. This church, built in the 17th century, includes canvases of the ‘Cusco School’. The village is also famous for its handicraft market where bartering is still practised.
Maras
Maras is famous for its proximity to hundreds of salt wells that form a spectacular landscape. In Maras you can see more than 5,000 salt extraction wells built in Inca times.
Moray
Moray is located 74 kilometres from the city of Cusco and is home to the famous Inca circular terraces. This set of concentric circular terraces gives the sensation of being an artificial crater.
Moray was one of the main ‘agricultural research centres’ of the Inca empire. It was dedicated to the experimentation and sowing of crops from different places.
The different climates and altitudinal levels were constructed with the intention of making it possible to grow crops from the coast and jungle in cold climates.
Other tourist attractions you can visit
Salt mines of Maras; In the high part of the Sacred Valley there is a group of more than 2000 thousand natural salt wells formed by the whim of nature thousands of years ago. The Incas worked the salt for their personal consumption.
Today, the inhabitants also work the salt, which forms a unique landscape. It is located almost 50 kilometers from the city of Cusco. The beauty of the landscape also made it one of the most popular attractions in the city of Cusco. Archaeological Site of Moray; it is located only 10 kilometers from the salt mines of Maras, the Incas built a set of enormous circular terraces that offer a unique landscape to the sight, likewise they domesticated diverse agricultural products coming from different geographies, like the potato, the corn and even the coca leaf. Its beauty made it an important tourist attraction in the city of Cusco.
