- Parque del Amor (Love Park) in Miraflores: Panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.
- Plaza de Armas (Main Square): The historic heart of the city with viceregal architecture.
- San Francisco Convent: Home to a colonial library and underground catacombs.
It is the perfect introduction to Peru’s cultural diversity.
What are the Ballestas Islands?
The Ballestas Islands in Paracas are a marine sanctuary known as the “Peruvian Galápagos.” During the 2-hour boat ride, you will see sea lions, Humboldt penguins, pelicans, and cormorants. You will also see the mysterious geoglyph El Candelabro (The Candelabra), carved into the hillside of the desert. It is a unique experience of biodiversity and Andean-marine mystery.

Yes, during the boat ride you will be able to observe:
- Humboldt penguins (endangered)
- South American sea lions playing near the rocks

All of this is thanks to the rich Humboldt Current, which feeds this unique ecosystem.
What is Huacachina and what activities are there?
Huacachina is a natural oasis surrounded by giant sand dunes in the middle of the Ica desert. There we do two exciting activities:
- Dune buggy riding in the desert: An extreme ride over the dunes.
- Sandboarding in Huacachina: Sliding down sandy slopes on boards.
Both activities end with a spectacular sunset view from the highest dunes.
Can you go sandboarding with no experience?

Why is Arequipa called the “White City”?
Because many of its historic buildings are constructed with sillar from Arequipa, a white volcanic stone quarried from the Chachani volcano. This stone gives the city a special glow under the sun and was key to its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also very common for tourists to know it as Arequipa, the White City.
What will we see on the Arequipa city tour?
We will visit the most iconic sites:
- Carmen Alto viewpoint: Panoramic views of the valley and volcanoes.
- Yanahuara: Famous for its sillar arches and views of the Misti volcano.
- Santa Catalina Monastery in Arequipa: A colonial labyrinth of streets, plazas, and painted cells.
- Plaza de Armas: Surrounded by colonial arcades and the Cathedral.
- Church of the Society of Jesus (La CompañÃa): Known for its mestizo-baroque dome.
It is a unique blend of history, architecture, and Andean energy.
What is the Santa Catalina Monastery?
It is one of the most important monuments in Latin America. This monastery in Arequipa was founded in 1579 and covers more than 215,000 square feet. For centuries, it was a world apart where nuns lived in isolation. Today you can walk through its painted alleyways, interior plazas, gardens, and decorated cells. It’s like entering a village within the city.
Note: The original Spanish text incorrectly referenced “convento san francisco lima” (San Francisco Convent in Lima) in this section about Arequipa’s monastery. The translation correctly identifies it as the Santa Catalina Monastery in Arequipa.
What will we see in Colca Canyon?
The Colca Canyon tour is one of the most impressive experiences in southern Peru. We will see:
- Cruz del Cóndor (Condor Cross): The main viewpoint to see Andean condors flying over the canyon (13,650 ft. deep).
- Traditional villages: Pinchollo, Maca, Yanque.
- Antahuilque and Choquetico viewpoints: Featuring pre-Inca tombs and Inca terraces.
- Hot springs in Chivay.
- Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve: Home to vicuñas, llamas, and flamingos.
When is the best time to see the Andean condor?
The condors in Colca are best seen early in the morning, between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m., when they leave to search for food using the thermal currents. From the Cruz del Cóndor, you will see them soaring majestically over the abyss. Some have a wingspan of up to 10 feet. It is an impressive natural spectacle.
What is the transfer from Arequipa to Cusco like?
We travel on an overnight sleeper bus from Arequipa to Cusco, with an approximate departure time of 8:30 p.m. The journey takes about 10 hours. Additionally, we pass through towns like Calca and Urubamba, with unique landscapes and authentic Andean life.

Yes, we include an Andean buffet lunch at a local restaurant. You will taste dishes like fried trout, rocoto relleno, quinoa with cheese, and native potatoes. Everything is made with fresh ingredients from the valley. If you are vegetarian, vegan, or have allergies, please let us know in advance.
How do we get from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes?
We take the Machu Picchu train from the Ollantaytambo station to Aguas Calientes; the journey lasts approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. The route is scenic, with views of the Urubamba River, mountains, and jungle vegetation. You travel comfortably seated, with large windows. Arrival is scheduled for the afternoon.
Where do we sleep before visiting Machu Picchu?
We spend the night at a selected hotel in Aguas Calientes, the base city for visiting Machu Picchu. All hotels are close to the train station and the bus terminal. They have a private bathroom, hot water, and basic Wi-Fi. It’s ideal for resting and preparing for the big day ahead.
What time do we arrive at Machu Picchu?
We leave Aguas Calientes very early, around 5:30 a.m., to catch the first bus. We arrive at the Machu Picchu entrance around 6:00 a.m., right at dawn. This allows us to enjoy the sunrise over the ruins, when the mist lifts and the sun’s rays slowly illuminate the terraces. Being among the first helps avoid the crowds.

- Machu Picchu Mountain: Longer, less steep, ideal for those seeking a complete experience.
You must reserve these months in advance due to limited availability.
Is there electricity and cell phone service?
Yes, all hotels have electricity to charge your devices. Cell phone service is good in Lima, Arequipa, and Cusco, but can be weak in rural areas like Paracas or Colca Canyon. We recommend disconnecting a bit. However, the guide will have emergency communication.

Most people complete the tour without problems, but we are prepared.
Are there budget options for this tour?
Yes, there are more affordable Peru tour packages and Lima Cusco package costs, especially in the low season. You can save money by joining large groups or choosing regular departures. But be careful: avoid offers that are too cheap, as they may omit insurance, entrance tickets, or quality transportation. You get what you pay for.
