Overview

1. Day 01

   Train Cemetery, Uyuni Salt Flats, Incahuasi Island and Villa Candelaria

   Begin a three-day adventure through some of the most remarkable landscapes of the Bolivian Altiplano. The first day combines history, local culture and the vast scenery of the Uyuni Salt Flats, with visits to the Train Cemetery, the community of Colchani and several iconic attractions within the salt flats.

   You will also explore Incahuasi Island, known for its giant cacti and panoramic views across the endless white landscape. At the end of the day, continue to Villa Candelaria for an overnight stay.

   Accommodation: Villa Candelaria.

2. Day 02

   Ollagüe Volcano, Altiplano Lagoons, Stone Tree and Red Lagoon

   The second day is dedicated to discovering the dramatic landscapes of southern Bolivia. Admire Ollagüe Volcano and travel through high-altitude lagoons inhabited by flamingos, surrounded by mountains, deserts and striking natural formations.

   The journey continues across the Siloli Desert, home to the famous Stone Tree, before reaching Red Lagoon. Its intense colours and large flamingo colonies create one of the most impressive settings within the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve.

   Accommodation: Huayllajara.

3. Day 03

   Geysers, Polques Hot Springs, Green Lagoon and San Cristóbal

   The final day begins among high-altitude volcanic landscapes, where you will observe active fumaroles and geothermal fields during the early morning.

   Afterwards, relax in the Polques Hot Springs and visit Green Lagoon, located beneath the imposing Licancabur Volcano. On the return journey to Uyuni, travel through remote Altiplano villages, including the historic mining community of San Cristóbal.

   Note: the programme may be adjusted according to rainfall, weather and road conditions.

Itinerary

• DAY 01Uyuni – Train Cemetery – Incawasi – Villa Candelaria (B–D).

  At the indicated time, pickup from the designated hotel.

  The start of our Uyuni Salt Flats tour is at the Train Cemetery, where the first locomotives arrived in Bolivia during the 18th century for the transport of minerals between Pulacayo and Antofagasta.

  We continue exploring the Salar de Tunupa. Our next stop is the town of Colchani, where local residents sell salt handicrafts and demonstrate the salt processing method.

  Afterwards, we arrive at the salt flats themselves. This is the largest white salt lake in the world, covering approximately 10,500 km². During our visit, we will also see the Salt Eyes, the Salt Pyramids, and the old Salt Hotel. Finally, we will reach Incawasi Island, a true oasis in the middle of the salt desert, where we can take a walk among its cactus-covered landscape.

  To conclude, we will head to Villa Candelaria, where we will spend the night at our first stop.

  Overnight in the town of Villa Candelaria.

• DAY 02Volcano Ollague Viewpoint – Altiplanic Lagoons – Stone Tree – Lagoon

  After breakfast, we will head to the Ollague Volcano Viewpoint, an active volcano located on the border between Bolivia and Chile. We continue our journey toward the Altiplanic Lagoons, where we will observe the first flamingos. Passing through the Kañapa, Hedionda, and Honda lagoons, we will cross high mountain passes and the Siloli Desert, home to the famous Stone Tree.

  After taking some photos, we will head to the viewpoint of the Laguna Colorada, after registering at the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve, where we can observe thousands of flamingos that inhabit this beautiful lagoon.

  Finally, our last stop will be Huayllajara.

  Overnight in the town of Huayllajara.

• DAY 03Fumaroles – Hot Springs – Green Lagoon – San Cristóbal – Uyuni (B – L)

  This day, we will wake up before sunrise to witness the fumaroles that become active early in the morning. It is also the highest point of our entire journey, at 4,900 meters above sea level. Afterwards, if you wish to enjoy a rejuvenating and healing experience, we will visit the Polkes hot springs.

  Then, we will head to the southernmost point of our trip, the Laguna Verde, located in front of the Licancabur Volcano.

  On our return, we will pass through small villages, including San Cristóbal, a classic mining town.

  Arrival in Uyuni.

  For visiting the Uyuni Salt Flats 3-Day Program, the best season is between January and April. However, the itinerary is conditional and may vary depending on the amount of rainfall in the area.
