Overview

1. Day 01

   Train Cemetery, Uyuni Salt Flats, Incahuasi Island and Coquesa

   Begin a two-day journey across the Uyuni Salt Flats, combining extraordinary landscapes, local culture and some of the most representative attractions of the Bolivian Altiplano.

   On the first day, visit the Train Cemetery, the community of Colchani and several highlights of the salt flats, including the Salt Eyes, Salt Pyramids and the former Salt Hotel. The experience also includes Incahuasi Island, known for its giant cacti and panoramic views across the vast white landscape.

   The journey continues to the community of Coquesa, where you will spend the night in a peaceful setting near Tunupa Volcano.

   Accommodation: Coquesa.

2. Day 02

   Coquesa Mummies, Tunupa Volcano Viewpoint and Chantani Museum

   The second day focuses on the cultural and natural surroundings of Tunupa Volcano. Visit the ancient Coquesa mummies and hike to a viewpoint located at approximately 4,400 metres above sea level.

   From this point, enjoy impressive views of the volcano’s varied colours and the immense Uyuni Salt Flats. The day also includes a visit to the Chantani Stone Museum, created by members of the local community.

   In the afternoon, return to Uyuni and conclude the experience.

   Note: April to October generally offers the best conditions for this tour. The programme may be adjusted according to weather, rainfall and road conditions.

Itinerary

• DAY 01Uyuni – Train Cemetery – Incahuasi Island – Coqueza (B – L)

  Pick-up of passengers from the Uyuni bus terminal.

  After breakfast.

  We begin our visit at the Train Cemetery, where the first locomotives that arrived in Bolivia in the 18th century are located, used for transporting minerals between Pulacayo and Antofagasta.

  We then head to the incredible Tunupa Salt Flat area, and our next stop is the village of Colchani, where locals sell salt handicrafts and demonstrate salt production. From there, we continue to the salt flat itself, a 10,500 km² white lake of stunning beauty and the largest of its kind in the world.

  During our tour, we will also visit the Salt Eyes, the Salt Pyramids, and the old Salt Hotel. Afterwards, we will head to Incahuasi Island, an oasis of cacti and petrified coral located in the middle of the Uyuni Salt Flats. We will climb to the top of the island to admire the giant cacti and coral formations.

  We will have the opportunity to take extraordinary photographs on the brilliant white salt flats. Then we will continue to the village of Coquesa, located at the foot of the island.

  Overnight in the village of Coquesa.

• DAY 02Tunupa Mummies – Tunupa Volcano Viewpoint Hike – Chantani Animal Museum – Uyuni (B – L)

  After breakfast, we will head to the Tunupa Mummies, and then we will begin a hike to the Tunupa Volcano viewpoint, located at 4,400 m.a.s.l. This viewpoint offers stunning views of the volcano’s different shades and the vast salt lake.

  This viewpoint offers impressive views of the volcano’s multiple tones and the enormous salt lake. It is a truly extraordinary sight. After enjoying the breathtaking views, we will continue to the village of Chantani to visit the charming museum entirely built with stones by local residents.

  In the afternoon, we will return to Uyuni.

  For the Uyuni Salt Flats 2-day tour, the best period is between April and October. The itinerary is subject to change depending on weather conditions and rainfall in the area.
