Overview

1. Day 01

   Cusco – Tinqui – Upis

   • •Transportation from Cusco to the community of Tinqui (3,900 m.a.s.l.).
   • •Observation of Andean communities and camelids (llamas and alpacas).
   • •Overnight camping in Upis (4,400 m.a.s.l.).
   • •Duration: 3 hours of transport + 6 hours of hiking.
2. Day 02

   Upis – Laguna Ausangate Q’ocha

   • •Ascent to Arapa Pass (4,800 m.a.s.l.).
   • •Stop at Yana Cocha Lagoon for a picnic.
   • •Ascent to Ausangate Pass (4,850 m.a.s.l.).
   • •Camping at Ausangate Q’ocha Lagoon (4,650 m.a.s.l.).
   • •Duration: 7 hours of hiking.
3. Day 03

   Laguna Ausangate – Paso Palomani – Jampa

   • •Ascent to the highest point, Palomani Pass (5,200 m.a.s.l.).
   • •Views of the Ausangate glaciers.
   • •Descent into the Pampa de Finaya valley.
   • •Camping in Jampa (4,700 m.a.s.l.).
   • •Duration: 8 hours of hiking.
4. Day 04

   Jampa – Paso Campa – Pacchanta

   • •Ascent to Campa Pass (5,100 m.a.s.l.).
   • •Hike alongside numerous lagoons.
   • •Camping in Pacchanta (4,350 m.a.s.l.).
   • •Relax in hot springs and enjoy a traditional dinner.
   • •Duration: 6 hours of hiking.
5. Day 05

   Pacchanta – Tinqui – Cusco

   • •Descent hike to the community of Tinqui.
   • •Transportation from Tinqui back to the city of Cusco.
   • •Duration: 3 hours of hiking.

Itinerary

• DAY 01 Cusco – Tinqui – Upis

  At 05:30 a.m., we take our vehicle to the community of Tinqui. Along the way, we will observe small Andean communities, each with its own customs and traditions. Tinqui (3,900 m.a.s.l.) is where our transportation team awaits to begin the trek.

  Along the route, we have the opportunity to visit some Andean families and observe camelids (llamas and alpacas) at over 4,000 m.a.s.l. Upis (4,400 m.a.s.l.) is our designated campsite. The climate in this area is cold.

  • Transportation time: approximately 3 hours.
  • Hiking time: approximately 6 hours.
• DAY 02Upis -Laguna Ausangate Q’Ocha

  After breakfast, we begin a morning ascent to the first pass known as Arapa (4,800 m.a.s.l.), then continue down to the depths of Yana Cocha (4,500 m.a.s.l.), where we will enjoy our picnic lunch.

  We then continue the ascent to the pass called Ausangate End (4,850 m.a.s.l.) and finally reach the edge of Ausangate (4,650 m.a.s.l.), which is our campsite for the night.

  • The climate in this area is cold.
  • Hiking time: approximately 7 hours.
• DAY 03Laguna Ausangate – Paso Palomani – Jampa

  It is the most challenging, and at the same time the most beautiful and stunning stage of the ascent to the highest point of this expedition: Palomani (5,200 m.a.s.l.), where the views bring you incredibly close to the Ausangate mountains and glaciers.

  We then descend into the Pampa de Finaya valley, and our campsite will be in Jampa (4,700 m.a.s.l.).

  • Hiking time: approximately 8 hours.
• DAY 04Jampa – Campa Paso – Pacchanta

  Another impressive highlight of the ascent is Campa Pass (5,100 m.a.s.l.). Afterwards, passing by numerous lagoons, we continue toward Pacchanta (4,350 m.a.s.l.), where we will set up our campsite.

  Pacchanta is also where we enjoy relaxing hot springs and a delicious traditional regional dinner.

  • Hiking time: approximately 6 hours.
• DAY 05Pacchanta – Cusco

  After breakfast, we begin the hike to the community of Tinqui (3,850 m.a.s.l.), where we will take our transportation back to the city of Cusco (3,350 m.a.s.l.).

  • Hiking time: approximately 3 hours.
