Overview

Day 01
Puerto Maldonado – Tambopata Lodge
Arrive in Puerto Maldonado and travel by boat along the Tambopata River toward the lodge. During the journey, enjoy the Amazonian scenery and look for birds, capybaras and other wildlife.
After settling in, join a guided night walk to discover insects, amphibians, bats and other animals that become active after dark.
Day 02
Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick – Tambopata Rainforest
Early in the morning, travel by boat to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, where parrots and macaws may gather to feed on the mineral-rich clay, depending on weather and natural conditions.
The day continues with optional adventure activities, a visit to Gato Waterfalls and an ethnobotanical walk to learn about medicinal plants and Amazonian trees. In the evening, enjoy a boat safari in search of caimans.
Day 03
Lake Sandoval – Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast, begin the return journey and continue toward Lake Sandoval. Following a walk through the rainforest, explore the lake in a rowing canoe while looking for monkeys, herons, kingfishers and, with some luck, giant river otters.
After the visit, return to Puerto Maldonado, where you will have the evening free to relax or explore the city.
Day 04
Departure from Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast, enjoy free time until your transfer to the airport.

Itinerary

Reception at the airport and transfer to the lodge, where you will be welcomed with a delicious cocktail or tropical juice.
We will board an outboard motorboat and travel for approximately 2 hours along the Tambopata River to the Lodge & Research Center. A box lunch will be provided along the route.
During the journey, we will observe local farms and different species of birds. We may also have the opportunity to see families of capybaras, the largest rodents in the world.
Upon arrival, reception and accommodation at the lodge.
After a short rest, we will take a night excursion into the forest to observe and listen to insects, bats, frogs, and perhaps have an occasional encounter with other nocturnal mammals.
Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
The diverse sounds of the rainforest will accompany our first night at the lodge. Lunch and dinner included.
We will wake up early, around 4:30 a.m., and enjoy a light coffee or herbal tea before beginning our 40-minute journey to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick in Bahuaja-Sonene National Park.
During the trip, we will have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful natural landscapes and wildlife along the banks of the Tambopata River. Upon arrival, depending on weather conditions, we may witness one of the greatest wildlife spectacles in the Amazon: hundreds of parrots and macaws of different species descending to feed on the mineral-rich clay of the riverbank. This is an unforgettable experience.
Afterward, we will walk along the river beach in search of animal tracks while enjoying a light snack.
By mid-morning, we will return to the lodge for breakfast and free time, approximately 2 hours, to rest, enjoy adventure activities such as ziplining or tree climbing, or simply relax and make use of the lodge facilities.
At 11:00 a.m., we will cross the river by boat, approximately 10 minutes, to visit Cascadas del Gato, where you can take a refreshing swim in a natural jacuzzi. Optionally, we may try fishing for some of the more than 250 species of fish that inhabit the area, or enjoy kayaking or canoeing on the river.
After a traditional lunch, we will enter the rainforest for an ethnobotanical walk along the Tambopata trails. During the walk, we will learn about medicinal plants and native trees of the region while observing the impressive Amazon ecosystem. We may see walking palms, giant lupuna trees, snakes, and other forms of wildlife.
At dusk, we will take a night boat ride in search of caimans.
Dinner.
Overnight: Lodge. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.
After breakfast, we will begin our return along the Tambopata River toward the lodge, where we will leave our luggage, enjoy lunch, and have a short rest.
Then, we will travel again by boat for approximately 30 minutes to reach the entrance to Lake Sandoval. From there, we will walk about 3 km to the shores of the lake, where we will board a canoe for a rowing tour.
During the excursion, we will enjoy the beauty of the landscape and observe the lake’s wildlife, such as kingfishers, herons, monkeys, and exotic birds. With some luck, we may also see the family of giant river otters that inhabits the lake.
You will also have the opportunity to swim safely in the lake’s waters.
Later, we will observe the transition from day to night, as the sounds of daytime birds and insects gradually give way to the sounds of the evening.
Afterward, we will begin our return to the Madre de Dios River and continue to Puerto Maldonado.
After dinner, you may rest or take a walk around the city, either on foot or by bicycle. The rest of the night will be free to enjoy the nightlife of this welcoming city.
