Amantaní is part of the group of
islands that are in the Titicaca circuit. It has a total area of 64 square
kilometers.

The Amantani Island in Perú is presented as an attractive place for both ecological tourism, as well as archaeological and experiential. Within the territory of this island it is possible to find andenerías systems that were built during pre-Hispanic times by groups such as the Pukara and Lupaka, as well as the powerful Inca culture.

Another point of archaeological interest in Amantaní is concentrated in the Pachatata Ceremonial Center, which is located on the top of Cerro Coanos, and the Pachamama Ceremonial Center on Cerro Llaquistiti, both spaces where ritual ceremonies are still held annually today.

At present there is an average of 4000 people living on the
Island of Amantaní, those are Quechua speakers who also speak Spanish and are,
in themselves, the best guides that the visitor can find to know each corner of
the island, as well as its charms, customs and legends.

The inhabitants of Amantani Island in Perú, still today, live in modest houses made of adobe and dedicate themselves to rural tasks such as agriculture and livestock, activities that can be observed by visitors and where tourists can also participate, as a way more to live with the people.

Another work that is developed by the residents is the textile industry, so it will not be strange to find women of all ages spinning in the town, both chullos and ponchos, among other garments that can later be purchased at the town fair.

It is interesting to also present this island as a mystical tourist site, where different rituals inherited from more than half a century ago are still carried out in our times.

Such is the case of the so-called Qhapaj Pachamama Raymi, a ritual that takes place in the month of January and that focuses on the theme of reproduction; and in which the entire population of the island participates, dividing into communities to request the protection of the apus (or protective deities).

The tour to Amantani Island in Perú will also allow the traveler to enjoy the healthy and traditional local cuisine, based on products such as potatoes, fish, beans, geese, etc., which are offered in different local establishments.

The most exquisite dishes and in a greater variety, can be enjoyed during the festivities, so the traveler is recommended to visit the island, especially during its festive season. It is also necessary to know that although the island is open to tourists throughout the year, the ideal months to visit it are between May and October.

How to get to Amantaní Island?

To get to Isla Amantaní, from the point where you are, the
first thing you should do is get to Puno and go to one of the ports to take a
boat, the cula will take you directly to Isla Amantaní.

The second option you have to get to Isla Amantaní is to
start the trip from Juliaca to the Chifrón dock, in Capachica, where you can
take a boat that takes you to the island.

Puno to Amantani
Island

To get from Puno to Amantani Island, the first thing to do is take a car that takes us to Capachica.
