complex road system known as Qhapaq \u00d1an, whose objective was to strategically unite the Tahuantinsuyo, the Inca Empire that united the territories of what are today Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The renovation ceremony for this bridge, which is 30 meters long and 1.25 meters thick, begins with the cutting of the previous bridge, whose remains are thrown into the river. The renovation is officiated by the Andean priest, who is in charge of making offerings to the Pachamama and the Apus to obtain protection and prosperity for the inhabitants of the village.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new Inca bridge is renewed all year round, re-built over 3 days by the native communities of the region.
