It is located in the north of Peru between the Andes Mountains and the vast Amazon jungle.  It is the central part of the Peruvian jungle where we can find the sanctuary of the Virgen Asunta, moreover the historical centre of Chachapoyas was declared Cultural Patrimony of the nation on the 12th of November. The Plaza de Armas has elements of the colonial period, for those interested in religious tourism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chachapoyas is located in the Andes mountain range and the immeasurable Amazon jungle. It is located in the North East of Peru.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HOW TO GET TO CHACHAPOYAS?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Here are the two options on how to get to Chachapoyas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Via Air: To get to the city of Chachapoyas from Lima there are direct flights with a period of 2 hours.\u00a0<\/li>
  • By land: From Lima you can get to Chachapoyas through the interprovincial buses with a journey time of 22 hours.<\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    The climate in Chachapoyas has mostly cloudy skies in the afternoon. For Chachapoyas has a high temperature of 21\u00b0C and the lowest temperature is 7.5\u00b0C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The transport in Chachapoyas is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Public Bus, it is the most popular transport within the city and is very economical.<\/li>
    • Taxi. – Taxi’s are driven by citizens who provide a private service.<\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\n

      WHAT TO DO IN CHACHAPOYAS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      1.- Gocta Waterfall.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      The city of Chachapoyas offers an impressive view of one of the highest waterfalls in the world, as well as the most famous attraction of the Amazon River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The Gocta Falls is 771 metres high. Also known as “La Chorrera”, its incredible landscapes, flora and fauna is one of the reasons to visit and adventure.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      2.- Kuelap Fortress<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      It is located in the Andes of Peru to the North East, in the province of Luya. It is a pre-Inca architecture and fortress built by the Chachapoyas culture. It forms an architectural group of stone of great dimension characterized by its monumental condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The platform extends for almost 600 metres and has a perimeter wall that in some points reaches a height of 16 metres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      3.- Sarcophagi of Karaj\u00eda<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      They are tombs with the shape of a human figure, it is a funerary tradition, which are located in high rocks at 2400 metres of vertical rocky wall and each one has an approximate height of 2 and a half metres. They are located in places that are difficult to access such as caves, cliffs and steep slopes. The objective is that the sarcophagi are not visited and that the mummified bodies can rest in peace.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      4.- Yumbilla Waterfall<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      This waterfall is located in Cuispes – Chachapoyas, the name of Yumbilla means “Heart in Love”. The waterfall is considered one of the biggest in the world thanks to its three waterfalls, which have a total height of more than 800 meters, with this height it would be surpassing the Gocta waterfall. This waterfall belongs to the circuit called Route or Valley of Waterfalls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      5.- Cavern of Quiocta<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      It is a cave that is located under a mountain that is part of the Andean mountain range, it is characterized by the excessive humidity of the soil, it has an extension of 545 meters inside the earth, it is a work of mother nature in which 7 rooms with stalactites and stalagmites were detected among which stand out the Caverna de Leo, it is one of the caverns that you cannot miss. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      6.-Ca\u00f1os de Sonche (Sonche’s Baths).<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Known as Huanca Urco or Mirador de Huancas, which is located in the populated centre of Huanca, the Sonche Canyon has an extension of 11 kilometres approximately and a depth of 1 kilometre, this wonderful attraction was eroded by the Sonche River. In this canyon there is a microbiological biodiversity that allows to show the flora and fauna, of which its fauna is composed by marsupials and birds with falconcillos. <\/p>\n
